Are We Too Obsessed About Productivity?

Recently, I received an email with the subject line "Stop Wasting Your Evenings." It caught my attention immediately. The email was all about making the most of your time after work - learning a new skill, working on a side hustle, or optimizing your schedule to be more efficient. While I understand the appeal of productivity, it made me ask myself: "Do we really need to be productive every single day?"
In a world that constantly pushes us to do more, be more, and achieve more, the idea of simply being often feels like a waste of time. We glorify hustle culture and celebrate those who are always on the move, but is that really sustainable?
I believe that relaxation is just as important as productivity. After a long day of work, sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to take a step back, unwind, and do something that clears your mind. Whether it’s going for a walk, reading a book, watching your favorite series, or just sitting in silence with a cup of tea—these moments of rest are valuable. They help us reset, recharge, and ultimately make us more effective in the long run.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make the most of your time, but it’s important to remember that productivity isn’t just about getting things done—it’s also about knowing when to slow down. If we’re constantly pushing ourselves to be productive every waking moment, we risk burnout, stress, and even losing sight of what truly makes us happy.
"Productivity isn’t just about getting things done - it’s also about knowing when to slow down."
So, instead of feeling guilty for not spending every evening ticking things off a to-do list, maybe we should start appreciating the power of rest. Because sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is take a break.
